Civic was tasked to assist the Department of Public Works in implementing a Metro-Wide Comprehensive Sidewalk Program. Our responsibilities include providing the guidance and expertise required to manage all aspects of the administration, planning, design, and construction observation phases of the program. The scope of the program necessitated that the work be divided into several hundred projects.

Priorities were established based on public input meetings and for ranking areas and establishing criteria for repair and maintenance. Priority were given to the directives contained in the Pedestrian/Bicycle Master Plan. As proposed improvements are identified and priorities are established, individual construction sites are scheduled.

To date, Civic’s staff has assisted the Department of Public Works with the inventory and replacement of over 6,000 curb ramps, the repair of over 60 miles of existing sidewalk, and the installation of miles and miles of new sidewalk.
